A friend of mine got drunk and kept rambling to me about 'living crystals' and when I asked him what the fuck he was going on about he said that carbon was overrated and silicon would be a much better alternative. He didn't clarify why except that it was more common on planets in the goldilocks zone and vaguely much more durable. That got me wondering so I figured it'd be a good idea to ask /sci/ since you're generally big-brained and I'm a self-aware retard.
