How do I learn to do proofs

I'm always lost and scribbling stuff till I happen to reach to solution.

The books make it seems so complicated with them proving 10 different lemmas before their final proof.

How do you think that far ahead, how do you figure out that this is the correct path to take? I'm essentially just doing trial and error.

You really need a certain level of IQ to understand proofs, if you don’t have it you might still be able to figure out and write down proofs by trial and error like you’re doing, you could probably pass most undergrad math classes, but it’s like teaching a monkey to write words it’s just drawing symbols it’s not really writing because it doesn’t understand the meaning

You really have to know what you're studying in order to think about and complete proof exercises. They aren't plug and chug exercises, it's more like figuring out a mystery in a story, and the section lessons are the story, along with previous sections respective to the topic at hand.
