Is Lie Algebra worth learning, if your goal is to learn the most general / widest varieties of mathematics?
I've spent a lot of time getting a good grasp of abstract algebra, and I've found that has helped a lot in easily understanding concepts from many different areas of mathematics, and it's been fun.
Does Lie algebra have equivalent applicability in terms of the ubiquity of the structures it studies?
