>>11780067Many years ago some scientist took/made essential genes from Mycoplasma mycoides, combined them to create a synthetic genome and replaced the genome of Mycoplasma capricolum cells with the synthetic genome to create Mycoplasma laboratorium or whatever you want to call it. I'm not really sure it qualifies as creating life but it's at least messing with it at a pretty deep level. It took them something like 15 years and it didn't really lead to anything. They were just basically showing off.
