Been thinking about the worlds obsession with utility and have been struggling with this one. What hobbies or jobs require the use of a personal pickup truck?

anything blue-collar, you can just throw all your tools there and not worry about space or fucking up your seat cushions
high clearance and 4wd for dirt roads to construction sites is a plus
if you live in the country a pickup truck is really useful

Most people use the bed twice a year for some dumb shit. Trucks are very useful but most people don't even need the capacity of an SUV.

Last load I hauled were flattened cardboard boxes. Had a ton of them from moving and buying stuff off Amazon. Took it all to the county dump where they have a recycling facility. Actually filled the bed to the top of the walls. Good thing I have a bed cover.
Used it a lot for moving. Before that, used it a lot fixing up my old house before selling it. Oh, and I used it to haul a bunch of pine straw to put in the garden beds around the yard.
I'm not hauling airplane engines or sofa sized boulders like you see in commercials but once you have one, you tend to find things to use it for.

Usually nothing. Most people in urban/suburban areas just buy those to burn through copious amounts of fuel and be a general nuisance on traffic.

Up until recently in Northern Ireland. I only ever see them with Motorcycles in the back. Usually scramblers or off road racing bikes. Also landscapers with their lawn mowers and shit.

They were very rare otherwise up until the last 5 years were everyone in the first world thinks they're American now. Ford Raptors and all sorts carrying nothing ofcourse.
