For me:
>I write out all definitions in short, concise yet simple, clear language.>I break down all solution methods into steps then put an example using that method beneath it. >I use pictures and diagrams often>I use unique names/names that relate to the subject rather than generic names, for example if the "pigeonhole principle" is just labeled "lemma #" in whatever notes your got, I go with "pigeonhole principle".>I use different colours all the time.If I'm studying for something, I rewrite out definitions and methods to help in grain them, then I do it all again for the ones I got wrong until I can effortlessly rewrite all my notes.
Lastly, and this is optional but it works well for me, I learn a little history about whatever I'm trying to learn. I find shits much easier to remember if you learn it within the context of the story of how it was invented and who invented it.
