Simple question:
how to tell wether the earth is functioning as a generator or a motor currently?

and what does it take to switch it from motor to generator and vice versa seen in a cosmic scale?

starting with the observable characteristics of the magnetic field it seems that pic related is the way this field is produced

a molten metalic fluid produces free electrons, when it spin it produces a magnetic field with similar characteristic as the earth, notice that this "fluid" could be unstable and overtime generate a change in the motion of the fluid effectively changing the magnetic field in strenght and orientation

the electric universe proposes it is external(I think ???) or something like that but this would requiere a distint current source like in the next picture

on the other hand if it was an externally induced magetic field this would also requiere an external Alternating field (in this case we would still asume that the core of the earth is highly metalic or at least the mantle highly metalic but I think this alternating field would create other visible problems like for example we would not have a possibility to use magnetic compass because the external inductive field is AC
