Guys I accidentally said something racist in class, what do?

>doing analysis on data sets that detail performance on a math test for middle school kids for schools of varying backgrounds
>each individual is measured in the following variables: age, sex, race, socio-economic background, middle school grade, test score
>were discussing the results of our analysis with prof
>prof notices some schools have a very positive skew for test scores, asks why
>lots of people start answering things like socio-economic background and age even if there is little no corretalion between positive skewness for test scores and those variables
>in my analysis, race and positive skewness have a correlation of .89
>point this out without thinking about it
>class goes silent
>prof laughs and says something like "well but that cant be it" and goes on
>after class I get a text from the 2 girls in class asking me why im racist

Wtf should I do now? I just wanted to do data analysis, im not racist and I dont care for politics at all!
Should I do other analysis to try to find an alternative explanation for the positive skewness?
