I'm a chemistry graduate who's been working in industry for nearly 2 years and I hate it. I'm considering going for a computational chemistry/materials PhD. I did my master's thesis in comp chem. Should I go for it? What's it like to do a PhD?

can you get decent job with that? is there demand for that particular phd? are you good at chemistry? Do you see yourself working hard for the next 4+ years, researching, studying and writing a thesis?

Are you ready to put in the work needed? if the answer to these is no, then obviously you should reconsider

I know nothin about PhDs but I don't see how it could hurt. I bet with a specialty like that it would get you into a sweet program at like Boeing or Honeywell or something

No. There are no jobs so your best career move will be pivoting into an unrelated software job -- the PhD is a waste of time.
