Meds with schizophrenia have pretty bad side effects like any medication does, because of how receptor binding works there will always be pros and cons, but newer research into atypical antipsychotics that use different mechanisms other than blocking the d1 family singularly are showing promising results, so I think it's promising that there will be much better meds in the next decade or so.

I had olanzapine shoved down my throat in a psych ward once after they also had me on so much ativan they could have knocked out an elephant, that shit felt horrible. I felt like my brain was exploding in every direction the next day when I tried to eat.

It fucks with everyone. I have bipolar type 1 and have been on and off of antipsychotics for a long time. Be happy you they didn't put you on geodon, the withdrawals were like DXM but with tremors. They all stop hallucinations and delusions, but they all have horrible side effects-- some more than others

I had haloperidol years ago that my friend gave me and it just made me feel really zoned out like looking at my own hands was like a movie screen on 1.5mg or so

Schizophrenia is for life. Sorry bro. I have a cousin with it who convinces himself he is over it a few times a decade and stops taking his meds with predictable results. He now gets monthly med shots instead of pills to help ensure this no longer happens.

To add a lot of human contact and being outside doing things that involve working with your body helps people. Certainly the more you withdraw from socializing and your body and the world the worse it will get. Getting friends who will tell you what’s real and what isn’t and encourage healthy ways of thinking will help a lot. You can certainly manage it by staying away from shit that encourages your delusions, I had (drug induced, long story, not what you think) psychosis that lasted about a decade and doing this helped a lot. I had to stay away from religious stuff, and sometimes I’ll have a mild episode triggered by fatigue or by watching something that triggers it (usually watching something that depicts someone having a psychotic breakdown from their perspective, it makes me start having similar delusions and hallucinations)
