Could you explain to me something about genetics:
Why is there two variants of the R1 haplogroup, R1a and R1b, but there's no R1c clade? Or even R1d? what differentiates the clades?

There was no R1c man. Haplogroups aren't really anything more than a genetic curiosity. They don't have any real significance.

R2 is sibling of R1, While R1a and R1b are siblings downstream of R1. They have both the R1 mutation and others. R2 doesn't have the R1 mutation (M173).
