Hi /sci/, what books should i read to teach myself some chemistry? Hopefully something that a complete idiot about the subject can understand a bit.

Do you know basic, general chemistry? That's where I'm at and Leroy Wade's ochem book has been good to me so far.

disclaimer: I majored in physics, so I treat ochem as quantum 5. You may not enjoy it as much as I do.

Chemistry cubed is the best book. Once you read that, you will have a good basic understanding of 1 year uni-level chem.

If you want to dive deeper, choose one subject Physical/ Organic /inorgaic the take one book as an introduction to the subject

Atkin's physical chemistry if you're not a math illiterate. If you have a hard time with math go back to some basic algebra and analysis then go back to atkin's physical chemistry

Clayden and greeves is a bible for organic chemist

For inorganic, shriver and atkins inorganic is more accessible than keiter and keiter inorganic chemistry

Then if you really want to go further you need to have book on one specific subject
ex if you like quantum chemistry atkin's is just an introduction, then you should consider buying soem specific book (group theory and chemistry by bishop, modern quantum chemistry by Szabo)
