Ok for real somebody explain- what happened here? Why would the feed cut out at the exact wrong time like this? Are we going to see the recovered footage of the landing at some point? Just because the live feed cut out doesn't mean the landing wasn't captured, right?

When the rocket is landing on the drone ship, the insane vibrations caused by the engine is enough to disconnect the signal put out by the antenna.

Rocket engines go brrrrr. Brrrrr shakes up barge. Shaking barge stakes up antenna. Shaking antenna loses connection until engines stop going brrrrr.

Yes. The cameras record and transmit. If they can't transmit, then they'll just record.

There's a huge fucking rocket above its that is spewing smoke and gas out its engine that causes connection issues a few seconds out from landing. Also its in the middle of the ocean. Most of the attempts at the barge landing have connection issues around the time it touches down so its nothing new.

Some absolute retard thought it would be a great idea to not only continue to use bottle rockets, but now land them upright. Because they did this exact same shit during the falcon heavy launch. The feed cut off and suddenly everyone shut up about the core being recovered. No, you don't want a rocket exploding on live tv.
An hour later they admitted the rocket exploded and showed they had footage.

So here they did the same, they cut if off just in case. Then 5 seconds later, when it was clear it landed, they turn the camera on again.

That's all. And it makes a lot more sense than your pathetic claims

Well if that is the case it is pathetic that the leaders of space exploration would do that and also it makes no sense since like you say they did before- they'll just show footage of any mistake later anyway. It's not like they covered it up in the past so if something goes wrong why not show it live? What's the difference between showing a fuckup live as opposed to later on? And if they wanted to cover their asses, why not just add a few seconds delay which they could cut off if things go wrong?

Stop defending this bullshit behaviour. It's no wonder you get people making conspiracies when the supposed best and brightest can't even be transparant about their workings and fuckups.

It's not inconceivable that a private company would prefer to release potentially bad pr vids when they want. Like if I remember correctly, for falcon heavy, Musk put a tweet saying it was because of insufficient fuel.
In the end, their target for these broadcasts is not you, it's their potential customers that don't know shit about rockets and might freak out if they see one exploding live.

It's hard to see this as bullshit behaviour, more cautionary.

I still find these to be incredibly weak reasons and even if what you guys are saying holds water I maintain that they should just put the whole stream on something like a five second delay with someone ready to man a killswitch if something goes wrong. That's the same shit they do on some live tv shows incase someone swears or has a heart attack or something. It's a safety measure so they don't look bad. If the booster crashes then they can just blame connection issues and then announce later when nobody cares anymore but if it succeeds then they cut back to the stream

If they know the feed directly under the rocket is liable to be interrupted, why not film from another feed a bit further away? Unless you want to pay millions for a military grade drone you'd need someone nearby to pilot it; but the droneship is autonomous for a reason the dang rocket might crash into it and explode, so it's best not to put people on the ship.

That's actually NOT why it cuts out. The only intentional times SpaceX has stopped showing footage is when starlink deploys (proprietary method) and when NRO payloads are deployed (classified).

It cuts out on the barge (most of the time..but not always) because its shaking the fuck out of the thing and the communication antennas can't maintain lock. It's not like they are trying ho hide their oopsies.

I know they've basically got the landings down pretty well now but why not get some magnetic locks on the deck to hold the legs in place? Seems like a fairly simple solution so they don't have to stress about rough weather as much.

if you watch the stream you can literally see the water that is set on top of the barge moving in ONE frame because of the rocket's flame. Trust me.
