Creating general AI (at least through scientific/technological means) would require materialism to be true, which it might not be.

the problem does not transcend anything. we still don't know how intelligence works in the brain. we will one day, and we will make general AI eventually. whether or not those AI are truly 'conscious' in the same way we are is probably going to be a philosophical problem forever though
