>advanced computer science topics Your introductory compilers course is not “advanced.” Either way, the “colorful” thing about TCS is that if you like pure math, it’s nothing but that (unless you’re doing algorithms, which is more applied), but it’s fairly motivated among different applications. A result in computational geometry has effects on graphics, learning, algorithms, etc.. results in complexity have effects on algorithms and now in other fields of mathematics too.
So no, theory is really far off from being mundane, much less the most mundane field of computer science lmao
