negatives raised to odd powers are negative, negatives raised to even powers are positive. x^x or x^(1/x) is nowhere continuous across the negative domain, as no matter how far you try to take a limit for any of it's values you'll always be able to find a discontinuity. It looks like you could just define 0 for the negatives of your function, or take the absolute value for the inputs.
