>>11723519I have been very confused these past couple of months, because I have been hearing so much conflicting and contradictory information that I simply don't know what is correct.
They say that masks don't actually protect you at all from getting it, and the main purpose of masks is so you don't spread it to others as an asymptomatic carrier. If that is true, is it only true if you wear a certain kind in a certain way? Like does it have to be an N95 mask, or can it be a homemade one? We were hearing a lot that you can make something at home with a cloth or bandana; but I've been hearing that won't work at all and you need an actual surgical mask. So is everyone walking around with a cloth/bandana cover totally pointless?
I also hear they are meant to be one time use only, and for them to be effective they should be replaced every time you go out. But it seems like hardly anyone actually has enough masks to do this, and most people are just washing their masks or simply reusing them. So is everyone just walking around with totally ineffective masks, then, because they are reusing them?
And apparently you are not supposed to touch your face at all. But it seems like everyone i see adjusts their masks and touches it, when they want to say, speak or breath a bit more easily.
So I don't understand, masks are meant to be worn a certain way, yet the guidelines are that you only need any kind of face cover. So whats the point? Nobody seems to be following the protocol of 1. wearing N95s, 2. replacing them with each use and 3. never touching their face. So is literally everyone walking around with ineffective masks, or am I just monumentally confused?
And in fact I am hearing both a)masks are necessary but also b) masks are actually counter productive and worse for you overall. So...what is it? I just have no idea what to believe anymore.
