but anyway, TeX and its derivatives are far from perfect, but they're still the best we've got. i would give a LOT for a modern replacement for the family, rather than yet another scripting patch on top of TeX, but i dont think we'll ever get that, *TeX is just too mature now.
however, Word is a lot better than it used to be! it can even do bibtex style in-place citation references and on-the-fly reference format switching now. It has automated TOC generation too. Its figure management still sucks but let's be honest, figure and image management has always been *TeX's biggest flaw too. track changes kinda sucks, but i prefer Word's comment system to editing comment lines in a *.tex file.
