The number 1 should be taught to children as a 1D unit vector.

Numbers are simply convenient bundles (usually 10) and then bundles of bundles. Numbers are NOT their symbols/sounds.

Addition is putting them end to end

Subtraction is addition of negative numbers

Multiplication and division are "stretching" (scaling)

Teaching children to make the sound "wunn-and-wunn-is-too" IS NOT TEACHING THEM MATH
