I graduated a MEng in Mechanical at the end of 2019. Average mark 80%. 2 internships at large consultants. A lab demonstration role at uni. Good placing in a handful of machine learning competitions, won one of them.
I didn't get a graduate job, still looking.
I've been doing what I can with this time. Selling custom Excel spreadsheets online. Selling tutoring online. Designed the acoustics of a home theater for an appropriate fee. 1 ML comp was good to me. I made a stats and gametheory website for teamfight tactics. I made a trading bot but I was too slow, it was only papertrading when the big crash hit.
My two internships were both related to oil+gas. I made me realize something about what I wanted to do with my career. Mechanical as a whole is a stagnant field, it's also not a wise investment to pigeonhole myself into a narrow sub-area. I'm inspired by certain key figures who are very broad.
I hope to specialize into engineering risk management.
>>11712656>>current year?Yeah, I hope that's all it is. That way it's not personal.
Though I also hope that that's not what it is, so that there is more opportunity.
The world (except for a few key areas, like Japan) is due for a large deleveraging. Though I'm not going to try to predict with certainty, as people were saying the exact same thing in 2008.
