adjacent pixels in a lattice, essentially layering two images. the thumbnail you see is a lightbox, and it shows the light side of the image. when you click, you see the actual non-embedded image, which is a darker image. each one ignores the other at first glance, but you can see a trace of the other layer if you squint or change perspectives.

How do you avoid having bright pixels in the full res image? I get it somehow abuses the imperfections of the scaling algorithm, but how do you make the scaled down version so bright, with no bright pixels in the original image?

maybe the dark pixel grid, that gets removed in the thumbnails has some alpha information which overlays in the scaled up image?

I just don't knwo how that could work without a rather severe bug soemwhere. The image looks different when I copy it and paste it into different apps. It looks like the scaled up image in some, and as a mosaic of the two images overlaid in others.
I don't think that should be possible to happen.
