every day i check the arXiv and there is a bunch of fucking crap. mostly from china. basically derivative shit with questionable reasoning/methodology, and it's absolute garbage.

how do we stop shit science? do we just need to ban chinese and go from there?

It's not a China exclusive, China is just so large that they outshine everyone else.

I had to stop doing review for this one journal (which is supposed to be one of the top in this subfield) because they were throwing piles of papers barely in English at me and I was sick of sending them back with "I don't think this was done properly but it needs so much editing that I can't be sure what was done at all".

There is no fix outside of a major shift in the world order. "I Fucking Love Science" is a rallying cry of the higher-status political party in the United States, and the US rules the world for now. If you have some minimum degree of competence and want some political power, you are incentivized to Do Science as a way to own the backwards Republicans, whom you must hate if you want to signal high status. Science will never be great again until filthy neurotypicals of this nature are purged, and science becomes a reviled activity for autists who are obsessed with understanding the truth and have no regard for any social consequences of their research.

That has literally nothing to do with poor quality work coming from outside the US being posted on a site with no review, in fields with relatively little politics involved.

True, but I guess I don't see the concern if that's the only issue at stake. If you can successfully identify where bad and irrelevant papers are coming from, you can just ignore them.
