Basically just a very very thin sheet of aluminium. Small grains of dust will just get vaporized into a plasma, along with tiny parts of the sheet, dissipating by the time the ship passes by. With something larger you might be able to use sensors of some sort to relay the trajectory to the main ship, and either avoid it or smoke it with the lasers.
