I've been thinking about making what I call "The Inventor's Triage" which is exactly what it sounds like.We'd start by finding out which problems are considered the most severe and the most prevalent. Then try to figure out which of these problems are simply the byproducts of other larger problems and what problems could potentially arise or increase in severity by fixing other problems. Order each of the problems by importance, then offer rewards for the successful invention that effectively fixes said problem, scaling with importance. Government actions and theories do not qualify.

The importance is mostly a matter of opinion, but how directly the problem results in death seems to be a good standard, with a lot of people agreeing to heart diseases being high priority. Over time the problems will get progressively more trivial or more fundamental.
