Why does it bother you somebody drinks beer, or what tattoo they have? Why are you mystified that people don't care about the national debt, or the number of congress members? You see, things like that have little to no bearing to your life (perhaps unless you plan to buy government bonds or something like that) so why should you think or care about them? You (author's) problem isn't thinking too much, it's thinking about the wrong things. And he goes on to blame the exact same error on people watching footbal, not seeing the same error in himself.
I have an IQ nearly exactly one SD above the authors and I would never think of getting bothered by somebody's tattoo, somebody's choice of music, people who buy lottery tickets, restaurants being closed in the middle of the night, or any of the myriad problems the author seems to be totally incapable of dealing with.
Libertarianism sucks. Libertarianism more or less literally means there is no such a thing as a friend. Wanting friends goes directly against being a libertarian. Libertarian means you care about your own gains and nobody else. And would be a retarded system in practice.
Yes, smart people do get hated. The author is not one of them. You suffer because selfish pricks attract each other, because nobody wants to be around them. They don't try to one up you because they hate you, they are just people who want to win. It's nothing personal.
