Interesting fact the meter is completely arbitrary. The french tried to definine it as one ten millionth the distance from the north pole to the equator going through paris (They were trying to compete with GMT). But they modeled the earth as a perfect sphere so got it "wrong" by about a centimeter per meter. SO the meter is just as arbitrary as any other base measurement. They could have just divided the yard into 100 if they struggled with math so much.

at least the foot and the inch are worth preserving and keeping alive because they are human derived measures. they are traditional units that links us back to Rome and before (the conceps because the actual measure might not be exactly the same, a mile was "mil steps" )...

Our ancestors tried all sorts of bases, and settled on base 10 because having 5 as a factor in the base was highly valuable. See pic. Base 12 is somewhat better sometimes, but other times it turns into a total train wreck.

Base 12 is better in every way. Of course 0.1 and 0.2 are going to be messy when converting to base 12 because 5 isn't a factor of 12. But duodecimal has a single digit decimal for the most fundamental fractions (1/2, 1/3, 2/3, 1/4, 3/4) so who care's about 5 not dividing in evenly. It's like how 7 doesn't divide into 10 easily. But everything else becomes easier.

The fundamental fractions you state aren't particularly difficult in base 10. But 1/5 is a fundamental fraction because it is part of human biology. And it is an absolute train wreck in base 12.

The chart I converts in both directions. When the base 12 (2 digit in yellow) decimals are expressed in base 10, none of them have more then 5 digits after the decimal, and they all end with a single repeating digit if they repeat at all. 1/100 in duodecimal is 21 digits long! Almost all of them are.

Base ten makes hard things easy. Base twelve makes easy things easy.
