It's a subgenre of biology so all zoologists are just specialized biologists. The best ones are veterinarians and veterinary surgeons. You get the biology degree first and do enough animal-related work to warrant a thesis paper, after which other zoologists award you your phd. Like all animal work it requires having a lot of guts and a lot of interest in looking at bones and how animal bodily functions work.

dude i know, but what master's degree should one get, you can't do veterinary, you'd have to go to vet grad school.
And i'm not in the US where people can get into a PhD right after undergrad or even before that, here it's required undergrad+master's to do a PhD program.
