Terraforming would be a great program for martians to undertake, have something like the eagle scouts work for it. The power requirements might be an issue, and it won't be perfect, but it could drastically reduce the radiation exposure while going outside. I've also heard of a big magnet at L1 Mars-Sun. Dunno how feasible that is, if I had to guess, not very. But the point isn't a habitable mars now, it's one in the future. Plus it could make decompression events less severe.
