yes put notes, the procees I know is "just" about building layers of material that will be dissolved via acid chemicals this acid should only dissolve the building material but not the conductors ... this layering bulding process eventually can result in a tridimensional structure

It is almost the same. It is still multistep process to archieve layers by using photolithography.

Whether one uses FeCl3 to etch and the other CVD+plasma to etch and dopping, is another matter.

Not so curious about this, but is it possible to do this stuff at home? I've made PCBs by etching with acid, toner, and a copper sheet, and I was wondering if this could be done similarly.

If you've ever worked in photoshop and know how "layers" work then it's easy to visualize how it's the same process with a cpu. Only there's about +-30 layers and they're all connected in a particular way to another. Each layer is designer probably with some kind of CAD software and wherever inputs are made in the software translates into a masking of each silicone wafer that goes into a chip. This is why cpu factories like Intels are incredibly sterile environments. The size of engravings can be altered by any particle. It's the origin of the term "silicone lottery" used by computer builders/overclockers. Comparing two of the same cpu, even from the same batch, one will always be more "overclockable" than the other simply because of the defects caused by manufacturing.

Others covered the manufacturing techniques, which started with simple photolithography has been refined over decades.
The design itself has been similarly refined over time. We started with making transistors, then integrated nand gates, then more complex integrated circuits, and just kept building on previous knowledge until we had useful CPUs. Humans are pretty good at engineering.

Its a common movie trope that some of our latest technology is secretly reverse engineered for profit or whatever. (Mib, transformers or whatever)

Issue is tha all they technology they mention and all technology we have subsequently has extremely well documented histories of all the steps we took from theoretical to lab to largescale manufacture t9 improvement ad infinitum. No aliens nessesary im afraid.
The real would be tech to harvest would be their propultion to hopefully help us solve for gravity or faster than light travel.
