Not a linguist but I enjoyed a class on the theory of translation while at college. Very populated with strong opinions regarding whether translation is factual or poetic. Considering both scientific texts and poetry have both been masterfully translated the issue seems to be mostly an argument about the personal motives of the translators.

I enjoyed the class and learned a good deal about my own language use. Also fuck hippy types who demand we use the most current popular terms over the more closer related translations.
