Is this a thing? I opted for a generic pass grade over traditional grading last semester because I figured It'd get me where I was going without risking my GPA. Now I have three "P"s.

P's hurt a lot based on which class you're applying to. Some random elective? Nobody cares. A core class (usually schools won't even let you do that) or high level elective? Yeah schools are going to feel like you copped out.
You should consider the implication of an entire semester of pass / fail grades...to be honest anon, it will probably hurt your application despite this being the COVID semester.

It shows people you know how to game a system. Academia is half gaming the system, so if I were looking at your transcript, and the P's were just electives, I would think you played the cards you were dealt correctly and would look favorably upon you.
