It's supposed to be used in a raman spectroscopy setup, somehow. The lens on the right where light comes through seems to focus light(or maybe intensify is a better word) in both directions, in and out. Also it was said to have a filter for rayleigh scatter.

I'm not entirely sure, but because of the two different colors coming out and the large exit aperture it appears to be a diffraction grating to split the different wavelengths of light corresponding to different vibrational states.

Looks like a dichroic mirror. It uses interference in thin films to reflect certain wavelenghts and let others pass through. From what little I remember about raman spectroscopy, it might be used to filter out the illuminating light, leaving only the raman signal
