funny thing, northern antebellum era blacks were far smarter than those in the south that remained as slave, some estimates put their average IQ at around 100 as they had to fit into the european culture, the end of slavery meant the low IQ black slaves that remained were free to travel about. there used to be prominent black financiers
their population was not huge but far smaller than the southern slave population. ironically they probably suffered the most from the emancipation
