>>11683765> cs majors that are "double majors in math" that literally do the bare minimum> take basic baby analysis and algebra in senior year and barely pass.I was a double major in math and CS and was on honors track for both. I finished the year long sequences in algebra and analysis - we used Artin, dummit+foote, rudin (baby first sem, papa the second), and holland for these classes. I then went on to take grad classes in math for the next 3 semesters (extra since I was slower to take classes early on). I know of some of the CS majors you talk about, but generally at my school the brightest were math / CS double majors. My algebraic topology class was almost 2/3 double majors.
>studying 18 hours a daylolwhat. No, you study by doing homework like 10 hours a day for like 4-5 days straight (including the time to type out homework in latex). However, 18 hours a day is more an indication you have bad habits because even on my hardest analysis homework sets it didn't take more than ~25 hours to finish a set of 6 nontrivial problems over the course of 2 weeks.
>>11684363It's a fine combination. Don't listen to (
>>11684471) since CS isn't exactly programming - again, focus heavily on theory and you should be fine. Also don't do applied math - pure math is closer and more relevant to CS applications undergrad onwards, believe it or not.
