Seeing as this is an approximation, there may not exist an exact form, but I can make do with something similar.

This is what I'm trying to munge into somewhat fitting the approximation. Suggestions for what can stretch the period without breaking symmetry? sin(1/x) and sin(1/x^2) cause weirdness.

Are you joking dude? Either use the expressions that are given in the fucking wiki article, or use an ode solver for the exact solution. It's fucking in 1D, you can numerically solve it in an instant.

If you don't know "what's what" then you don't understand the actual physics. I don't know why you'd want to recreate a plot of something that has no meaning to you. This is like some bad art project.
At any rate, randomly guessing functions and parameters is by far the dumbest and least efficient way to do this, even *if* the graph were generated by a closed form expression.
