They can't even model most proteins with a computer. Once you get up into a couple hundred atoms the sum of all the atomic forces become impossible to bruteforce calculate. If we can't even predict the shape of a protein from the genetic code, we are not even close to "fully understanding it".

came to post this. cellular processes are sort of like the quantum mechanics part of biology. things like ph of the cell affect what stretches of dna are available for transcription as well. so there are also environmental effects as well as the hard-to-model interactions between proteins/genes.
