Growing up Mormon I heard this quote a lot. Basically, the only reason we do anything is that we have faith in the outcome. But the quote never sat well with me. It is conflating religious faith with faith in science are two very different things. Religious faith is believing in something without any tangible evidence, vs scientific faith which can be tested and proven over and over again. Clearly these two things aren't the same thing, and I believe the quote is a semantic trick intended to trick you. Which is sort of what you are doing

It all depends how crucial it is you get the answer right, and you risk tolerance of being wrong. Science never gives conclusions as absolute truths, everything is up for debate in science, and confidence is increased as a function of repeated confirming results. But there is little comparison between religious faith with zero confirming data points, and science that you can obtain as many data points as certainty requires. So I will say "it depends". But you can be rather certain pretty quickly, because chemistry has proven to be a very repeatable science.

No Religious faith is believing because of philosophical arguments and assumptions.

Scientific faith is believing because of philosophical arguments and assumptions.

No, he uses logic. Mathematical logic and mathematics in general is not science. It is not based on observation and hypothesis but rather absolute truthfullness. This includes philosophy btw as long as it is taken in a very strict sense.

Yep, the difference is scientific faith is based on observation I could probably personally witness if I really wanted to. But technically you aren't wrong. I just so happen to have more faith in the signals my eyes and ears send to my brain, than I have faith in vague religious claims spread by people with a personal agenda. Not to say science is infallible, and scientists don't often have agendas, because they sometimes do. But at least I can look at the evidence and decide for myself. I'm even skeptical of history for this reason, because it's highly susceptible to agendas, and I can't personally confirm most of the evidence.
