Programming is easy, and I think when people hate on CS they conflate it with software engineering because usually CS majors take classes on intro to Python/Java/C first. Once they reach data structures/formal languages thats where all the faggots who entered CS to be codemonkeys or game developers get weeded out and only those actually interested in the theory or the design of systems stay. I would hardly consider automata theory, AI, complexity theory, algorthims, systems programming, or anything similar easy.

I did this for a few years (on my own projects), then got sick of what I came to view as essentially working for free.

It's been a couple of years since I last used it, but MAME needs a feature added to it select favorite games. With over 10,000 different games, scrolling though to find the ones you want to play is a pain. A favorites feature would be useful but no one seems interested in adding it. So maybe that will be me.

Solve whether one can find a simple closed quasigeodesic on a convex polyhedron in polynomial time. Regardless of the answer, give tight runtime bounds and an algorithm that computes it in the appropriate time.
This should be easy, given how trivial CS is.

Why would I work on a huge pile of shit other people crapped out without giving it much thought?
This is the trap CS heads fall into again and again, and it's also why our software is so fucking fragile and weakly protected against simple exploits.

but this is the bare minimum you had to do for the core of the major.
