Anyone know if this invitation is legit? Is it a predatory journal? I'm confused, because I'm not being charged for anything and the email is in proper English.

The journal in question is JOVE, and the example links here:

yeah pic related is the caliber of spam that I get on a daily basis (pic related is even on a field that isn't even what I work in), but the one in the OP looked more legit

the thing is, I don't want to end up lending my name in order to invite people I know to get charged through the nose, so was hoping anyone here could confirm if this is actually legit or not though experience

I have the feeling there are some predatory journal cartels or something that crank out journals by the hundreds and all use the same format

for some reason they always start their emails with "greetings" or "greetings of the day" or something like that, pretty easy identifier for a trash rule

I wouldn't worry about it, it's only your name and it's not like there's anything embarrassing/compromising on this thread. Make sure you use 100% opacity because next time you could show something a lot worse than your name and you might not even get told about it.

its really easy to do this kind of analysis. on macos you just open the image in the default image view, open the color tools, and move the white point slider towards the black. took me 10 seconds. hardest part was merely saving the image and then opening in in the image viewer.
