What's interesting to me is that "like" as a constant filler word used to be relegated to cali valley girl accents that everybody else made fun of. Sometime between 2004 and now it started getting adopted en masse and everybody subconsciously uses it.

The issue is not a lack of intelligence, but a lack of strength. These people are afraid of things they do not understand, the unknown. It is perfectly normal to be intimidated by a difficult concept to learn, but often times I think these people are resigning when they say "I just cant think in numbers." They are surrendering and saying "my brain is incapable of doing this" as a way of coping against their unwillingness to learn.

Some math is genuinely difficult if you aren't gifted. Differential equations, or advanced combinatorics. Because of the way the American university system works, this has allowed the meme that finding elementary algebra difficult is normal to proliferate.
In fact what has happened is that to avoid hurting the feelings of whatever rich families who have children in the lowest ten percent everything except the top ten percent has had their standards dropped over and over again.

I'm a fucking idiot. I said numbers, but I meant "letters in math". "So when you're a children and see letters in math for the first time you don't even worry to understand it."
