PhD Focused on protein structure-function studies, x-ray crystallography, protein-NMR and methods development, with some chemical biology to make myself more employable in biotech/pharma industry.
Doing your undergrad at Arizona is a deal breaker for staying there for grad school, IMO. I was at different places for undergrad, gap years as lab tech, grad school, now post-doc. I think the more places you go, the better: you make more connections, get exposed to more environments/research cultures, increase potential labs to work in, see more places, etc. Pretty much every PI/post-doc/grad student I've ever come across has said the same, and I don't anywhere where going to the same place for undergrad gives you an advantage when applying to the grad program. In fact, I know some schools, Berkeley for one, will reject undergrad applicants to their PhD program, outright. Really, unless you have some sort of significant personal reason for staying at the same place for a post-bac/lab tech gig and grad school (e.g. significant other has a good job in the area, family member is ill and requires care, both of which I've seen), I always think it's better to go somewhere else.
