I am, but my school isn't very good, and to be honest I'm a brainlet. Even though I'm top 5-10% in my class, makes no difference since everyone is a retard. I probably won't find work and I'm consdiering suicide.

Just keep hustling dude; build your own, self-funded systems projects, and add them to your portfolio, and get out there and shake hands, go to conventions, really stick your foot in the door. I failled the entire first year and I'm in my late 20s. It's more like 5-6 years for me.

I would say if its something youre interested in or you want to do that instead of finding a job in econ then sure! I recommend you look into some courses and if they speak to you and if you think its interesting then most definitely. I mean its free anyways and there's nothing wrong with extra knowledge, it helps in the future with your resumé and also studying is always fun

I’ve been working as a data analyst for the past two years but really I’m closer to a financial analyst. I’m much more interested in science and technology than economics. My biggest interest is philosophy but I’ve pretty much given up on the prospects of that so I’m really just torn between CS/engineering or math to get away from econ/finance and more into real STEM.

Not everyone wants to wageslave for some corporate overlord for the rest of their lives. Having a job that "contributes to the market economy more" than another is meaningless when the job is personally unfulfilling.

So why am I not studying engineering? Because I wouldn't enjoy it and the financial incentives aren't that important to me, comparatively. Thank God some people like it, though. Nice bait, OP.

Bros, I just finished first-year mech eng and honestly don't feel like I understood that much other than the maths, which was just diff, part diff, integ, integ by parts, matrices, etc. I could apply conceps to solve problems, like using Macaullys method for solving beam deflecitons, but I don't under how/why it works.

not really. engineering school has some math and some physics (which doesn't really go past late sophomore level for either subject as far as difficulty of the material) but the actual engineering career doesn't have nearly as much math and science as it is sold as having. It is much more iterative and business oriented than STEM.

Can you expand on this more? I would have to take far more credits for computer engineering than computer science and I kind of figured there’s be some professional overlap with my econ degree and cs but not so much with computer engineering.

when will CS being codemonkey as a meme die. CS and prongrammin are two different things entirely. I mean look at "muh copy paste solutions" and actual top algorithms papers like this one that won best paper award last year

if it's a masters, then beware. While (>>11668320) is right, this is true in regards to CS PhD's. A lot of CS masters out there are learn2code + extra algorithms out for a quick buck. CE masters are generally more technical knowledge but wont get you through actual engineering core. So you'll want to verify if your CS masters is worth taking
