Time is not the fourth dimension. You are influenced by higher dimensions now, though life on earth is unable to perceive it. We experience the effect as gravity and time. Gravity specifically is the warping of spacetime by matter through means we don't understand, and likely can only ever guess at.
Matter tells spacetime how to curve, this curvature tells matter how to move. That's gravity. Time is how we perceive a portion of this motion as matter moves through the geometric effects of the higher dimension.
Picture two flat, 2D beings on the equator of a globe. They are exactly 90 degrees away from each other on this globe. They decide to walk in the same perpendicular straight line. Since they are on a 3D sphere (though unable to perceive this) they believe they are walking straight and perfectly parallel, and are surprised when they meet one another at the pole.
To these 2D beings, they perceive the geometric influence of the sphere as "falling toward one another inescapably". This is a good analogy for human perception of gravity.
