From the photons perspective it is emitted and absorbed simultaneously, while we see it move at the speed of light from one atom to the other. Imagine a line in 4 dimensions. We are moving past that line looking at an instant of it. We are moving through time at c, looking at a static object, the photon, and thats why light always appears to move at c, because we are always moving at c and the photon never moved at all, it just exists as a 4 dimensional object, free from the effects of time. So I don't think the future has already happened, just we are looking at some objects that exist in higher dimensions than we can perceive.
