My line of thought is this: Acidification of the oceans makes the coral become brittle, and the weight of the Atol slowly crushes the foundation of coral.. let us say that 1cm of height in the coral foundation is lost due to crushing, then that would mean that the atol would drop 1cm in height.
If I was standing on the beach of this atol, I would measure that the sea is rising. When in fact, I fell 1cm down.
Next, what does acid and a carbonate produce? CO2.
My question: is this a possible cause for the rising of the sea level, and a increase of CO2 in the atmosphere?
