Yup. You can perturbatively solve the Schrodinger equation for an atom interacting with electromagnetic field to show that the transition is not instantaneous, instead the electron oscillates between the two concerned energetic states with corresponding frequency and then settles in the one with lower energy. That's how the radiation is emitted at the frequency of the two states.

I think the current understanding is that the movement of the electron is probabilistic but the photon created is discrete... but dont quote me on that

Photons aren't things, like waves. The EM field all around us when interacting with matter causes visible light. Where the magnetic and electric fields meet is what we try to measure as photons.

more or less thats how I was visualising it, but I thought it was "wrong" basically because (modern) physics ironically recommends you to not pay too much attenction to understanding things from a physical point of view but mathematical.
