I will say this, i live in the middle east, and we have been getting monsoon level of rains, in a matter of minutes it just starts raining buckets of water, only to suddenly die out and go back to being sunny.
we just get these bursts of an entire winters worth of rain in a matter of hours. its crazy.

The arctic is shooting off pieces of itself southward. The temperature difference between the north and south is no longer kept in check by the polar vortex, so the clouds forming move towards the warmer area. Usually this manifests as rain and cold wind from the north.

Global warming. Not local warming.
I still remember what my grade school teacher told me so many years ago. Climate change means warmer weather, and wilder weather. If it's uncannily cold in May, then it's the latter you're experiencing. So whenever you question if it really is global warming, just remember that outlier weather of any kind is also a symptom of climate change.

Ok, so basically in history theres this giant wind circle, like the jetstreams that planes fly in, that revolves around the arctic. This has the effect of preventing the cold weather from escaping the arctic, keeps the snow in, ect. Global warming has weakened this vortex by increasing temps at the equator, basically you know how when you put an ice cube in water it melts? The temperature is transferred to the water from the cube. The warmer the water, the more the ice cube melts, same principle, the warmer the weather at the equator, the more the arctic weather wants to move southward. Of course this is a simplification, it has to do with air currents, but that's beyond the scope of this post.
