Why does anyone think it will be different this time? Most new medical breakthroughs are only applicable in very particular and contextual situations. Sure, makes for a lot of happy news for a few case studies, but does little to make massive changes for most people. Antibiotics are starting to fail at increasing rates. Vaccines are developed more slowly and less often. We have made zero progress in fighting diseases involving mental decline. Alzheimer's research is close to throwing in the towel. Progress has become painfully linear, you might get to look forward to a 5% improvement in survival rates for Cancer Type X Stage 3B after decades of research.

We have made the wrong choices. This is not the optimal run. We are on the path to the bad ending.
