You're all making an assumption that religious people are like you, in that they want to make sense and make an effort to either adapt their thinking or their actions until the two harmonize.
But they don't. Making sense is not necessary to live, and it's not expected of them by their peers, so they just do without.
Most religious people, most of the time, have feelings and ideas that contradict their religion. They'll think that gays are not an abomination, that mass-murdering first born egyptians would be wrong, that wearing mixed fabrics is okay, or they'll fear death, they'll become rich and not give everything to the poor, they'll fight their enemies, and not cut off the hand that cause them to sin.
And despite all that they'll keep believing in God.
They'll just go to church, pray, and contradict their religion the next day because no one and nothing will stop them.
Then so what if their work goes against their beliefs ?
