And by thick I mean possibly deeper than the marinas trench. It's difficult to send a signal through all that ice. The best approach is a fiberoptic cable and that'll be pretty heavy. And really before we can even consider a lander we need to send a mission to map the surface and figure out how deep the ice really is. And the Europa clipper mission is turning into a boondoggle because of the must launch on SLS requirement
